And We're Off: Team Screwball's Charity Season is Underway

With the sound of a starting gun, the official spring/summer charity season for Team Screwball, Team McGraw's Media-based group, is now in full swing.

With the sound of a starting gun, the spring/summer charity season for Team Screwball, Team McGraw's Media-based group, is now in full swing. As I stood in my corral at the on Sunday, highly anticipating my turn to cross the start line with 40,000 of my closest running buddies, I couldn't help but think, "Here we go. Here's to a 10-mile race. Here's to Team McGraw. Here's to Team Screwball."

I was happy to represent my beloved hometown team in the nation's largest 10-mile race. As I got into the groove, and was strutting down Broad at my ideal clip, I had extra momentum that day. I was overwhelmed by the camaraderie of this team and this cause, a feeling I have often felt since linking up with them a few years ago. It's something that means so much to me, and so much to the Media community.

It's that time of year again that is jam-packed with training, event planning, promoting, executing, and most importantly, enjoying. While extremely hectic and physically challenging at times, the hard work and determination always pays off a million times in the end for all of us involved. We have many great events on the docket for this spring and summer season.

Sunday, May 20 at 1:35 p.m. - Two Dollar Dog Day at  - For $2, grab a hot dog with all the fixins, order up a cocktail, join your neighbors, and watch the Phils take on the Boston Red Sox. Hot dog sales benefit the team gearing up for the Media 5 Mile Race.

Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. - Media 5 Mile Race - For the 3rd year in a row, Team Screwball will lace up and hit State Street running to raise money for Tug McGraw Foundation for brain cancer research. The past two years have been a blast. We love our sideline crew, and really appreciate all the hooting and hollering as we run this course (very hilly, quite hard, as any of us can tell you). The pre-race and post-race parties will be at The Plumstead (conveniently the race start line), and we may have a very special raffle, so stay tuned!

Check out our mention in

Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. - 7th Annual Tug McGraw Foundation Beef & Beer Fundraiser - The Media community will come together at the The Plumstead for the 7th annual event. There's tons of delicious food, unlimited beer, an amazing list of silent auction and raffle prizes, live entertainment, Phils on the high-def TVs, and you never know what surprise celebrity guests will pop in to say hello. What more could you ask for on a summer Sunday?

See for a bit more background information.

We encourage everyone to join us for the fun festivities, which get bigger and better with each passing year. We've committed to the community and to a great cause, helping brain cancer patients and their families through very difficult times. We are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to more great times ahead!

Keep an eye out for more information here, or stop by The Plumstead to get the low down. We hope to see you out there the next few months!

Ya Gotta Believe!
