Get Out: Drug Take-Back Day, Sleighton Park Dedication, Kids Run

This weekend is all about awareness and learning. Dispose of your unused, unwanted and outdated prescription medications at the Drug Take-Back Day, learn the results from a local paranormal investigations, get the kids moving in a healthy running series and admire the new Sleighton Park at its dedication.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

• When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at eight Delaware County collection sites including Media Police Department and State Police-Media Barracks
• Why Go: Prevent the misuse or theft of prescription drugs and properly dispose of unused or expired medications. Delaware County Council and District Attorney Jack Whelan are teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), county municipalities and eight of the county’s police departments to give local residents a safe place to dispose of their unused, unwanted and outdated prescription medications. Participants will remove any personal information from bottles or packages. Sharpies and syringes will not be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.

Sleighton Park Dedication and Open House

• When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 30, from 4-6 p.m., at the intersection of West Forge and Valley Roads
• Why Go: Walk along the trail, check out the soccer fields and relax under the shade of the many newly planted trees, thanks to those who either volunteered, made donations, helped obtain grants, assisted with planning and design or supported the Annual Golf Outing. Call 610-565-2700 to register.

Healthy Kids Running Series

• When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 30, 5:30 p.m., at Rose Tree Park Gazebo, 1671 N Providence Rd, Media
• Why Go: This five-week long program for kids pre-K through middle school was created to provide kids with a positive, educational, and fun experience in the world of running. Registration is open at www.HealthyKidsRunningSeries.com.

Paranormal Investigations Results Revealed

• When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 29, 8 and 11 p.m., at Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation at Ridley Creek State Park, E Bishop Hollow Rd & Chapel Hill Rd.
• Why Go: The Delmarva Historic Haunts performed an investigation of the spirits of the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation and its time to share the results of the investigation. Come and join the investigators as they lead each group from building to building, describing their findings at each stop. This event has two sessions each two and half hours long, and are appropriate for ages 12 and up. You will be in darkened rooms with low light levels and walking on some uneven paths. Please bring a flashlight.
