Servies Planned in Springfield for Teen Killed on Baltimore Pike

Hundreds are expected to pay final respects to a popular teen student and athlete.

Services are set for Saturday morning in Springfield for a Clifton Heights teen who was struck and killed as he walked from the McDonald's on Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights Sunday.

Dante DeSimone was a popular athlete who graduated from Upper Darby High School in June and was a student at Neumann University.

According to an obituary on Legacy.com relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday from 5-9 PM and Saturday from 8:30 -9:45 a.m. at the D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, in Broomall.

A funeral mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Church in Springfield with burial to follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield.

DeSimone's death has sent shockwaves through the Upper Darby High School  and local high school sports communities.  DeSimone and a friend, Tim Robison, 18, were walking in front of the McDonald’s when a car and a truck crashed in front of them in the 500 block of Baltirmore Pike. The accident happened Sunday night around 9:30. The impact sent one of the vehicle crashing into the teens who were on the sidewalk in front of the McDonald's.

Hundreds of friends, family and total strangers turned out for a vigil at the crash site Monday.  You can read more about the vigil on the Delaware County Times website.

A friend posted a tribute video to the 18-year-old student athlete on Youtube.
