Patch Picks: Hairdo “Do’s”

Media Patch has your best bets to the most stylin’ stylists in the area.

Patch Picks highlights editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off, and more.

We’ve all been there at one time or another, desperate for a good trim or new color to spruce up our current hairstyle. The only problem is, we’re away from home, having relocated to a different city for a new job, or on an extended vacation. What on Earth to do with our ‘do? In some cases, we can seek out referrals from new friends in town, but there are those dreaded times that we pick blindly from the phone book and wind up with serious hair disasters.

That’s a one-and-done lesson to learn for sure. The rule of thumb seems to be, that once we find a hair stylist who makes us feel and look like a million bucks, stick with her or him.

Lest not forget the value of a knowledgeable and experienced hair stylist. They are highly trained artists with specific talents, willing to work with clients, offer suggestions, and make us feel comfortable with our decisions. We asked around who are the best of the best in the greater Media Patch area.

Situated right in the middle of State Street, this is one of the most popular salons in town, and Brooke is one of the most-requested stylists. Brooke greets you with a big smile, and a willingness to try new and trendy cuts, color and products. Her make-up application is pro, and as far as the guy’s cuts, they’re top-notch. The salon’s prices overall are reasonable for this market.

This salon has been around for more than three decades. The owner, Mena, and her staff certainly take pride in their experience level. She and her stylists travel to New York City for classes often, and they’re always up-to-date with the latest styles and colors. Plus, Mena leads a very friendly and accommodating business, who caters to the clients’ individual needs.

Everybody has positive things to say about Giota’s. The salon is small, and is located in a convenient spot in Media’s West End. Giota offers a decent hair cut and style, and pleasant conversation. She caters to women, men and children, too. Walk-ins are welcome, and the price is just right.

While the Broomall salon is only about two years old, the owner, Ann, has seen immediate success. Her prices are very reasonable, especially for color, which she does very well. Ann also caters to children. Her salon is full-service, and she carries all the latest products on the market.

Located in the Broomall Shopping Center, Teased Salon offers haircuts for women, men and kids. It’s a full-service salon, run by owner, Raina, who clients have described as very talented and friendly. She does children’s haircuts that are very reasonable in cost.

Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa & Salon

At the Glen Mills spa and salon, you get the all-out, red carpet treatment. The prices do reflect that, but it’s surely a relaxing and nice way to spend an entire day. Hillary is a favorite stylist there, and works with each client to create a fresh, new look. Guests are treated to a glass of wine, refreshments, and can choose from a seemingly endless list of services, from massage to laser hair removal.

We have been going to Head Courters in Middletown (now at the Elwyn Shopping Center) for years. I love thier no-fuss attitude. No false pretenses. Just simple, family oriented, personal service. The Powell family.
