1 Dead After Hitting Trash Truck

A car collides with a trash truck on Rt. 252 in Media, reports say.

UPDATE: 1 p.m. Tuesday

One person was killed in a crash along Route 252 and East State Street in Media Tuesday morning, according Media Borough Police.

A small, green car was heading south on Providence Road near Jasper Street (just before State Street) at about 7:18 a.m. and struck a southbound commercial trash truck that had stopped for a red light at the intersection with East State Street, according to Media Borough Police.

The car did not appear to brake prior to the collision, according to police, however the cause of the crash is still unknown.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The name of the drive is currently being withheld pending notification of the family.

There was no else inside the car.

The driver of the trash truck was not hurt, but a passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to Riddle Memorial Hospital, according to police.

The trash truck was from a private company and was not a Media Borough truck or employee, according to police. 

Media Police, Media EMS and Media Hook and Ladder responded to the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Media Police, the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division with assistance from the Haverford Township Police Accident Investigation Unit, and the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A green sedan collided with a trash truck at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday near Jasper Street (just before State Street) and Providence Road,according to NBCPhiladelphia.com. 

The driver of the car was killed,according to philly.com, the driver of the trash truck was not injured.

It was unclear if anyone else was involved in the crash or injured. 

Rt. 252 was open, with no traffic delays, before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
