$300 Fine for 4 False Security Calls to Police

You could be fined if your home security system causes four false alarms in a year, police say.

The Pennsylvania State Police-Media Barracks respond to many false security alarm systems that could be prevented. Police ask residents and businesses to monitor the security systems to help reduce the number.

Help State Police reduce the number of false alarms by doing the following:

  • Make sure your alarm company knows which municipality you are located. Examples of municipalities are Concord or Middletown Township, not Glen Mills, which is a mailing address.
  • Check that your contact phone numbers are correct. Ask to have calls sent to a cell number instead of a landline.
  • Know your password. If your alarm goes off and it is deactivated, the alarm company may still call you for the password. If you give the wrong one, the alarm company will notify police.
  • If you are having trouble with your alarm system, please call and set up an appointment with a service technician from the alarm company.

Under Pennsylvania State law, a homeowner or business may be cited, after a fourth false alarm happens in a 12-month period, according to State Police.
