80-Year-Old Couple's Lifesavings Stolen in Daytime Burglary

The couple planned to use some of the money to buy Christmas presents for their family and friends, police say.

A couple, who are both in their 80's, were robbed of their lifesavings in a daytime burglary Monday, according to Pennsylvania State Police-Media Barracks. 

Sometime between 9:30 a.m. and noon on Dec. 16, unknown persons forced their way inside a home on the 100 block of S. Pennell Road in Middletown Township, according to State Police. 

The burglars entered the house through a rear door and headed for the victim's bedroom, according to State Police, where they forced open a home safe with a pry-bar mechanism or tool. 

The burglars stole about $4,500 in cash, the victim's life savings, from inside the safe and several pieces of jewelry from a jewelry box, according to State Police.

The victims told police they planned to use some of the money to buy Christmas presents for their family and friends, according to State Police.
