An attempt to leave a cat at the Delco SPCA leads to a man's arrest, police say.

Here is a recent incident in Upper Providence Township reported by the Upper Providence Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

Police were dispatched to the Delaware County SPCA on Sandy Bank Road at about noon on March 17, for a man who was attempting to abandon a cat on the property, according to the report, the man was denied from dropping his cat off, due to policy reasons.

The man had explained his situation that cats were not permitted where he lived and he needed to get rid of it, however, the policy was explained to the man that he would have to take the animal to the Chester County SPCA, according to the report.

The man was last seen walking off the SPCA property with a cat inside a cat carrier, according to the report, but a short time later the man's cat was found roaming freely on the SPCA property, with the man no where to be found.

The cat was captured and an SPCA humane officer attempted to locate the man, assuming he had abandoned the cat, according to the report.

The humane officer found the man, walking on Sandy Bank Road, carrying the now empty cat carrier and requested his name, according to the report.

The man told the humane officer his name and said he was staying at the Ravel Motel in Media and the humane officer informed the man, he would have to notify police that he abandoned his animal, according to the report.

Police and the humane officer then responded to the Raven Motel and determined that the 49-year-old Media man was staying at the motel but was not there at that time, according to the report.

The humane officer left documentation with hotel staff for the man to complete, in order for the animal to be placed for adoption and decided they would make an exception and not charge him, as long as he completed the proper paperwork for the animal, according to the report.

However, a police check of the man's identity revealed he had an active bench warrant for his arrest out of Delaware County in connection with a parole violation, according to the report.

Police returned to the motel and found that the man had also returned, filled out the proper documentation regarding the cat and returned to his motel room, according to the report.

Police arrested the man and transported him to Upper Providence Police Department where he was processed and turned over to be transported to Delaware County Prison, according to the report.

The humane officer was given the documentation needed to have the cat put up for adoption, according to the report.
