DUI Arrests Result of Increased Fourth of July Police Patrols

A man was found sleeping on a concrete barrier that divides Baltimore Pike, police say.

Increased police patrols and sobriety check points throughout Delaware County over the extended Fourth of July holiday resulted in several DUI, public drunkenness and underage drinking arrests.

A man was found sleeping on a 6-inch wide concrete barrier that divides the north and south bound lanes of the 1000 block of Baltimore Pike in Middletown Township at about 5:16 a.m. on July 5, according to State Police-Media Barracks.

Police determined that the man was under the influence of a controlled substance, according to State Police. 

In Middletown Township, State Police made two DUI arrests on July 4 and a third DUI arrest on July 7, according to State Police. 

A sobriety check point was conducted on Route 202 in Concord Township between 11 p.m. on July 5 and 3 a.m. on July 6 where two DUI arrests were made and eight traffic citations were issued, according to State Police. 

A 19-year-old man was charged in connection with assaulting a police officer while he was being processed on charges of underage consumption of alcohol on July 2 in Middletown Township, according to State Police.
