Edgmont Bartender Charged In Connection With Sex Assault on a Child

An Edgmont bartender was arrested and charged in connection with a sexual assault on an 8-year-old girl, according to

William Paul Hoffman, 54, was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated indecent assault, six counts of indecent assault, one count of false imprisonment and three counts of corruption of minors on May 23, according to a State Police criminal complaint affidavit.

Hoffman was renting a room at the victim’s grandmother’s house in Edgmont Township and was a bartender at Locust Crest Tavern, according to the affidavit. He has no listed permanent address. 

According to the affidavit, Hoffman touched the female victim inappropriately on more than one occasion and also in the presence of her younger brother on May 18 and 19. The victim and her brother attempted to stop Hoffman but were unsuccessful, according to the affidavit.

The victim told her mother, who then reported it to the State Police.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Robert S. Kirby arrived at the victim’s grandmother’s house on May 23 and spoke with Hoffman who was carrying suitcases out onto the porch at the time, according to the affidavit.

Hoffman told Kirby he had touched the victim but in a lesser manner than the victim had described, according to the affidavit.

Hoffman said he touched the victim because "he was horny," according to the affidavit.

Kirby arrested Hoffman at approximately 7:46 p.m. on May 23. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Court Judge Leon Hunter and is currently being held in Delaware County prison on $500,000 bail.

The charges were filed in Newtown District Court 32-2-43 and his next hearing is scheduled for June 9.

No picture of Hoffman was available but he is described as a white man, having blonde hair and blue eyes and about 130 pounds and 6 foot tall, according to the affidavit.
