Emergency Crews Revive Man in Cardiac Arrest

Fire and emergency officials responded to a cardiac arrest in Middletown Township recently.

Fire and emergency officials responded to a cardiac arrest in the Riddlewood section of Middletown Township at about 8:19 p.m. on Nov. 16.

Lenni Heights Fire Co. arrived at the scene and found a man who was not breathing and had no pulse, and began CPR, according to Lenni Heights Fire Chief Ken Collins.

Lima Fire Chief Bill Cairns and Engine 46-2 arrived shortly after and assisted in performing CPR and deployed the AED (automated external defibrillator). Crews administered one shock and resumed CPR, according to Collins.

During CPR, Paramedics from Riddle Memorial Hospital and Aston Beechwood Fire Company arrived and administered two more shocks from their hospital issued equipment while CPR continued.

According to Collins, while performing CPR, the man took a breath on his own and regained consciousness. While crews were loading the man onto the stretcher he asked, "what happened?"

The man was transported to Riddle Memorial Hospital where he was still talking to emergency crews as he was brought into the hospital, according to Collins.

Lenni Heights and Lima Fire companies responded to the scene along with Riddle Hospital EMS and Aston Beechwood EMS.
