Rose Tree Fire Co. 1 and Media Borough Fire Co. 1 were dispatched to the scene at 1 State Road at 10:26 a.m. Friday.

The fire was contained and put out in about five minutes, Media Borough Fire Marshall Jim Jeffery said.

He said Media Borough Police were the first on the scene and a fire extinguisher was used to put out the small fire that was contained to a dryer.

Jeffery said the dryer fire was likely caused by rags that were placed in the dryer. The rags likely had oil or hydrocarbon materials, often used for industrial applications like wood finishings, on them and then mixing that with the heat of the dryer, can cause a fire.

The chemicals that were on the rags were the likely cause of the small fire, he said. It doesn’t matter how much of the chemical was on the rags, Jeffery said, when heated it can cause a fire.

The fire was contained to the one dryer, which was damaged and will need to be replaced, Jeffery said, there was no other damage to the Laundercenter. There was no water damage and the windows were opened at the surrounding businesses for ventilation.
