Gas Odor Evacuates Church, No One Injured

No one was injured following the evacuation of Today's Child at First United Methodist Church following a gas odor Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured following the evacuation of at following a gas odor Wednesday afternoon. 

Media Police responded to the W. State Street church, which houses Today's Child Day Care, on a report of a gas smell around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Media Police Chief Martin Wusinich said. 

He said a stove was left on at the day care and the pilot light had not ignited, creating the gas smell.

The day care was evacuated as a precaution and the stove was turned off, correcting the problem, Wusinich said. 

EMS personnel examined one child who complained of a headache. The child checked out fine and was not transported to a hospital, Wusinich said.

Along with Media Police and Fire officials, PECO responded in order to check outside gas lines as a precaution. 

The scene was cleared in about 20 minutes.
