Rank/title: Firefighter

How long have you been with the Lenni Heights Fire Co.?

One year. I also volunteered as a teenager.

What do you like about your job?

You work with a bunch of good, dedicated guys and gals. There's not many places where you can get the type of training and experience you get at a fire company. It's always a good way to give back to your community.

What do you dislike about your job?

Nothing really. It can be a lot of work and it can be dangerous, but we know what we signed up for and get the proper training.

What inspired you to become a firefighter?

My son did. He wanted to join when he turned 16. One thing led to another and I decided to join and become an engine driver. I got sucked into the life, I guess.

What do you like about the greater Media area?

It's a wonderful little area and really nice part of PA to grow up and live in. It's just 20 or 30 minutes from rural or city life.

What do you want the general public to know about the Lenni Heights Fire Co.?

The sign says we were established in 1923. It's a local volunteer fire company that's been part of the community for years. A volunteer fire company is a very unique American organization; you get a sense of belonging to an organization that has purpose. There's no place else that a 16 or 17-year-old can get the life experiences they get at a fire company.
