Lenni Heights, Lima Fire Depts. Choose New Name

The two Middletown Township fire companies have been discussing a merger for about a year and an agreement is close.

and Fire Companies are currently finalizing plans to merge the two departments, according to officials, and a name for the new fire company has been determined.

Rocky Run Fire Company was decided upon for the new name, following a voting process between both companies which narrowed down a list of eight possible names.

Final approval will be decided at each respective company’s general meeting.

According to a Lenni Heights and Lima press release, membership from both companies met Tuesday night to choose a name for their upcoming merged fire company. Officials from both fire companies have been meeting for more than a year in discussion to merge the two entities. With this merger,

Combining personnel, equipment and other key resources, would enable the new fire company to serve the residents of Middletown Township and surrounding communities with increased efficiency, according to the press release.

Following final approval from both companies, the pilot committee, a small group of members equally representing both fire companies, will begin the process of securing a charter and nonprofit status through the state and federal governments, according to the press release.

Although no date has been set of when the companies will merge and operate as Rocky Run Fire Company, the pilot committee is optimistic and working diligently to make it a smooth and timely transition, according to the press release.

Middletown Township Councilman Mark Kirchgasser previously said the new location for the fire station would possibly be at the Lima location on Baltimore Pike but that has not been confirmed.
