According to police at the scene, the salesmen were making false claims that teenagers were cutting phone lines to residences, implying their security system was a must.

Phone lines have not been cut in Media, according to police.

Media Borough Councilman Eric Stein was also at the scene and spoke to the two salesmen.

"They couldn't produce a permit when I asked them," Stein said. "They're saying they have a right to be here, but I'm going to make some phone calls and see if they do, and if they have a permit, I'm going to see if I can get it revoked."

Stein asked for more details about the types of crimes the salesmen were using as sales tactics, and their reply was, "We've had reports."

"I asked them, 'Reports from where?' and all they could say was, 'We've had reports'," Stein said.

Both Stein and the police sternly warned the salesmen that they couldn't go around using misleading reports from other cities or states to try and scare Media residents into becoming customers.
