RTM School Bd: No Information on Springton Principal Probe

Springton Lake Middle School parents ask what will be the next steps following the federal investigation of the school's principal Dr. Troy Czukoski.

The Rose Tree Media School District Board of School Directors gave a statement at its Thursday meeting regarding the federal investigation of Springton Lake Middle School Principal Dr. Troy Czukoski. However, no new information was shared.

Czukoski was placed on administrative leave on Oct. 18 following the district's notification that Czukoski was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Postal Service.

Czukoski has not been charged with a crime.

Board Vice President John Hanna read a statement, in part, saying:

"Our administration was notified by the U.S. Attorney's Office and the U.S. Postal Service investigators, that they had begun an investigation that involved Czukoski. ...We want you to know that there has been no new information shared with us by authorities. All of the information remains sealed by the U.S. Attorney and will not be released before the end of the investigation.

Regardless of what you might hear from the media, from individuals who claim to know facts about the investigation, or from the rumor mill—this is what we know for sure.

There is an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office and Postal Service involving Czukoski and Czukoski has been placed on administrative leave by the school district. We have no idea as to the length of the investigation. We don't know when it will be resolved.

Springton Lake continues to run effectively and safely under the direction of Assistant Principals Katherine White and Anthony Jackowski and we will continue to monitor the situation and provide support to our students and teachers. ...Superintendent James Wigo will keep you informed as to any developments as they become available."

Springton Lake parent Karen Potts, an Upper Providence resident, said she and many school parents are still concerned and rattled over the investigation.

"We're waiting for the other shoe to drop," she said. "We're not convinced that things are running smoothly. We think it's beginning to spiral downward."

Potts said there are teaching positions open at the school, grades are not being posted to the school's computer system and she said the extra responsibility on the assistant principals could become too much since there is no time frame as to when the investigation may end.

"This could go on forever, so what are the next steps," Potts asked.

Wigo agreed that they do not know how long this investigation will continue but in 30 days the administration will re-evaluate the situation and may bring a temporary solution to the board for consideration.

He said interviews have been conducted and the open teaching positions are expected to be filled very soon and any situation that is above White or Jackowski or needs extra attention will be handled by Wigo or Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steve Taylor.

"We (Wigo and Taylor) have made ourselves visible to the staff and students and will continue to do so," Wigo said. "Until we have some idea of an end point it's very difficult for us right now to plan. The one thing you can count on is that you have administrators...who will be more than available to the staff, the students and the parents at Springton Lake."

Wigo said he expects to send another Global Connect update to parents on Friday to keep them informed.
