Shirtless, Screaming Man Issued Citation For Public Drunkenness

On June 9 just before 5 p.m., Newtown Township police responded to  on South Newtown Street Road where a 40-year-old man from Media was seen intoxicated, staggering around and screaming at passing vehicles, according to the incident report.

According to police, the man was last seen wearing tan shorts, no shirt, walking around on the northbound and southbound lanes of Newtown Street Road as well as by the brick light post at the south entrance of Newtown Grill.

As police approached the man, he was consuming a beverage from a silver can labeled Steel Reserve, which was later identified as a "high gravity lager" with 8.1 percent alcohol. Police asked the man where he was coming from and where he was going. According to police, the man told them that he just got off the SEPTA 118 bus and was en route to Media via the ankle trolley.

While speaking with the man, police detected a very strong odor of alcohol coming from the man and requested for the man to perform a sobriety test. As a result of failing the test, the man was arrested for public drunkenness and transported to headquarters where he was issued a citation.

According to the incident report, he had a blood alcohol content of .354 percent.

Newtown police transported the man to Rose Tree Park where they met Media police, who then helped transport the man to his home.
