State Police Blotter: Men Charged in Connection with Stealing Wawa Scanners

Here is a list of recent incidents in Middletown and Edgmont townships reported by the . Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents is asked to call police at 484-840-1000. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

Retail Theft—Boscov's at Granite Run Mall at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Nov. 29. A 25-year-old Upper Darby woman entered the store and concealed $521.91 worth of merchandise and walked out of the store without paying, State Police said. She was detained and arrested, State Police said.

DUI—Route 352 near Forge Road at approximately 2:41 a.m. on Nov. 27. A 21-year-old man from Elizabethtown was operating his vehicle and pulled over to the ride side of the road, State Police said. When questioned he displayed indications that he was intoxicated and submitted to field sobierty tests, State Police said. He was taken into custody and submitted to a chemical test of his blood, State Police said.

Burglary—Lenni Road between 8 and 11 p.m. on Nov. 24. Unknown persons arrived at a detached garage at the victim's property and stole old farm equipment and other heavy metal from the yard, State Police said. The persons then broke four locks to a detached garage, gained entry and stole two small spools of copper wire, State Police said. The victim estimates the thieves could earn about $2,600 at a scrap metal yard with his property, State Police said.

Aggravated Assault—Davidson School at approximately 12 p.m. on Nov. 23. A 15-year-old girl from Philadelphia trashed a classroom by flipping desks and chairs, throwing papers all around the room and squirting hand lotion all over the floor, State Police said. The girl also threw a tape dispenser at a victim's head in which it missed, State Police said. The girl was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and all charges were filed in Juvenile Court, State Police said.

Retail Theft—Boscov's at Granite Run Mall at approximately 12 p.m. on Nov. 21. Elizabeth Ann Backetti, 62, of Pottstown was charged in connection with stealing several pieces of merchandise from the store valued at $2,347.90, State Police said. All of the merchandise was recovered and charges were filed in District Court 32-2-48.

Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition—multiple Wawa locations on Nov. 8. Peter Sanchez, 30, and Claudi Javier, 30, both of Bronx, NY were charged in connection with thefts, State Police said. Four Motorola MC9090 inventory scanners were stolen from Wawa stores in Middletown, Chadds Ford and Concord townships and the total amount of the thefts were approximately $5,600, State Police said. Sanchez and Javier were identified and arrested in Palm Township, Northampton County on Nov. 21 in connection with more thefts from Wawa stories in New Jersey and Easton, Pa., State Police said. The two are susptected in several other scanner thefts from other local Wawa stores, State Police said. Sanchez and Javier were incarcerated and charges were filed in District Court 32-2-49.
