Video: Local Officers Represent Delco in 2012 Police Unity Tour

For Pennsylvania police cyclists, the 2012 Police Unity Tour kicked off at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning at Valley Forge National Park in King of Prussia.

The first leg of the four-day journey down to Washington, DC, begins each year at Florham Park, NJ, where the first tour was organized by Florham Park Police Chief Patrick P. Montuore in 1997. The tour makes stops at various locations and states down to Washington, DC.

By the time the tour made it to Rose Tree Park on Wednesday, the group grew to approximately 65 cyclists–including Delaware County officers as well as officers from Texas, Massachusetts and Georgia.

Four local police officers will represent the county in the 2012 Police Unity Tour. Those officers include officers Jeff Haughey, Ed Hanna, officer Joe Vandegrift, and Springfield Township Police officer Daniel Boyd.

The tour ends with a ceremony at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum in Washington, DC, and the money raised will go towards the memorial and museum.
