Woman Arrives Home to Find House Burglarized

A computer, gift cards, jewelry and other items were taken in an Upper Providence burglary.

An Upper Providence Township woman arrived at her Farnum Road home at about 3:27 p.m. on Sept. 24 to find the door forced open and called police.

The woman left the home locked at about noon, according to Upper Providence Township police.

The woman stayed outside of the home until police arrived and officers noticed the door jam and lock on the door knob were damaged when they arrived, according to police.

Officers entered the home and no one was found to be inside.

The homeowner was escorted inside and reported that items were stolen from a shelf inside the kitchen, according to police.

The stolen items included a laptop computer, a red box containing various gift cards, a small gray box containing costume jewelry, a white gold, wedding band with small diamonds and a white gold, diamond engagement ring, according to police. The items were in plain view from the window where entry was made through a side door, according to police.

Additional items were reported stolen from an upstairs bedroom, including silver bracelets and a pillow case. The room had been ransacked with dresser doors pulled from the dresser and overturned, emptying the contents, according to police.

Media Police assisted at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Nether Providence Township also experienced a forced burglary within the same time frame on Grandview, near the Chesley Office campus on Baltimore Pike. The means of entry were the same, the interior of the homes were similar and a pillow case was used to remove items, according to police.

Same thing happened at my house in Wallingford on August 17 in the middle of the day. Whoever is doing this is developing a varied collection of pillow cases!

I just installed my home security system. The equipment was free and the monthly rate is low but I started to doubt that I needed the system. After reading about these burglaries, I'm glad I took advantage of the great deal on my home security system.
