Woman Shot During Custody Exchange of Kids

A Middletown Township woman has been charged with attempted homicide, police say.

A Middletown Township woman was charged with attempted homicide after she fired shots at another woman during a custody exchange on Monday, according to State Police.

Lauren Patricia Daly, 41, was charged on Tuesday with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of a child and possessing instruments of crime, State Police Cpl. Gerard McShea said.

About 6:49 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of North Middletown Road in Middletown Township, during a custody exchange between former companions, Daly fired several shots at the victim, a 49-year-old Wynnewood woman, according to State Police.

Daly, a pediatrician at A.I. du Pont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., fired the shots through the front windshield of the victim's vehicle while an 11-year-old boy was sitting in the front passenger seat and a 9-year-old girl was standing outside of the vehicle, according to State Police.

Neither child was injured, McShea said.

Daly and the victim had been in a relationship that ended years ago and each woman had adopted the other’s biological child when they were together, according to the Delaware County Daily Times. The women currently shared custody.

The 49-year-old victim sustained three gunshot wounds and drove herself to Riddle Memorial Hospital, McShea said.

She was later transferred to Crozer Chester Medical Center where she was still being treated as of Tuesday, McShea said.

Daly was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Walter Strohl, who set bail at $2 million cash, and she was remanded to the Delaware County Prison.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 4 at the Lima District Court.

The investigation is ongoing.
