Corbett Calls For State Legislators To Have Transportation Funding Plan

Holding a piece of Harrisburg’s Mulberry Street Bridge as he stood in the city on Wednesday, Gov. Tom Corbett tried to encourage state legislators to pass a plan that would encompass transportation funding, according to a media release from the governor’s office.

“There are thousands of bridges across the state that are in the same condition as the Mulberry Street Bridge, but unlike the Mulberry Street Bridge which is slated for repairs next spring after years of crumbling concrete, there is no money to fix them,” Corbett said.

Corbett called for a bi-partisan effort to create a thorough transportation bill, saying that Pennsylvanians should not have to live with “crumbling concrete.”

He indicated that he was pleased with discussions about a bill that would fund transportation, and he noted that the public can tell their elected officials that a well-funded transportation system is a good idea.

“We’ve been under-investing in transportation for decades in Pennsylvania, and the legislature can change this by simply voting ‘yes’ on a solution,” Corbett said. “This is not just a matter of personal convenience – it’s about safety, our livelihoods, economic competitiveness and our quality of life.”
