The money, which will be used for a period between Jan. 1, 2012 until Dec. 31, 2012, will go towards equipment and paying for the officers’ overtime, Whelan explained to both the council and to Patch after the meeting.

Whelan said that last year the project made 358 arrest for drug offenses, which ranged from simple drug possession to drug deals.

The project—which comprises of Delaware, Chester and Philadelphia counties and Camden County in New Jersey—is made of up 50 officers, three of them are county employees and the rest are law enforcement officers from area townships, Whelan stated, who used to be chairman of county council until after the elections this past November when he won the district attorney’s position.

The council unanimously passed the project.
