Community Meeting about the Third Street Dam

The Third Street Dam Project Citizens’ Advisory Committee will sponsor a community meeting on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center at the Media Borough Municipal Center, 301 N. Jackson Street, in Media.  The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about the options being considered by the Media Borough Council for addressing the damaged dam located at Third Street in Media and to solicit public comment on the project.  All Media residents are encouraged to attend this important meeting.  For those who cannot attend the meeting, the presentations will be televised on Comcast Channel 10 and Verizon Channel 42.

The meeting will include an explanation of the options currently being considered by Council for the Third Street Project.  Experts will deliver presentations on the options for the dam:  dam replacement or dam removal/stream restoration.  There will also be descriptions of the roadway options:  constructing a roadway for automobiles, emergency vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians or constructing a roadway for bicycles and pedestrians only, with the potential for accommodating emergency vehicles.  After the presentations, members of the public will have an opportunity to contribute input and express their opinions.

The Third Street Dam Project Citizens’ Advisory Committee was established by Media Borough Council in January of 2012 to solicit public feedback for potential solutions to remedy the damaged Third Street Dam at Broomall’s Lake connecting West Media with Upper Providence.  Having existed since the 1880’s, the dam in its current state is beyond repair and must be addressed.  The Citizens’ Advisory Committee will deliver a report to Borough Council on or before April 1, 2012.
