Meehan Keeps Local Delco Districts

Redistricting plan maintains most of 7th District in the area.

Though the seventh congressional district in Pennsylvania may shift, Rep. Patrick Meehan (R) should keep many local Delaware County seats.

According to a plan introduced by General Assembly Republicans and detailed by PoliticsPa.com, Meehan would maintain his local borders in Delaware County, including the municipalities of Edgmont, Haverford, Marple, Media, Middletown, Newtown, Radnor, and Upper Providence.

Democratic lawmakers have complained of the plan as a way for Meehan to ward off election defeat in weak Republican areas. Under the plan, the district would add traditionally Republican areas in Berks and Lancaster counties, according to the Delaware County Times.

If the General Assembly and governor approve this plan, it would impact the 2012 congressional election for the 705,688 citizens in the district.
