Middletown Township Council Hears Historical Society Update

The council approved a few motions and heard an update from the Middletown Township Historical Society.

The reviewed a few plans and heard a presentation from the Middletown Township Historical Society at its meeting Monday night. 

Susan Mescanti, president of the Middletown Township Historical Society, presented the council with an activity update at the meeting. She said the MTHS is making progress with a book about the township's history. It is part of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series and will be available in late Summer or early Fall this year. Pre-ordering is now available through their Web site.  

In addition, the historical society is currently working with for Middletown's 325th anniversary. Mescanti said students are working under the guidance of Indian Lane's David Woods, building local history mosaics into the school's façade.

The MTHS has also struck up an alliance with Cumberland Cemetery to help with their research due to the large amount of history buried there, Mescanti said. 

In separate, unrelated council news, the council reviewed the final land development plan, with a representative from Aqua, regarding the water treatment plant.

Council approved the Certificate of Total Completion regarding the Willowbank Development on Route 452 near Glen Riddle Road. Council also approved the detour plan for the Mt. Alverno Road bridge replacement. The bridge goes over Chester Creek.

The next public hearing regarding the Franklin Mint property will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Penncrest High School. This will be the second public hearing held on the matter. 

Regular Middletown Township Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of the month, at the township building at 7 p.m. unless otherwise advertised.
