“Placing items together in the same igloo will save time while increasing what items can be recycled,” she said at the meeting.

“Items not accepted for recycling should never be placed in the igloos because they will contaminate the contents and will thereby be considered to be nothing more than trash,” Fizzano Cannon said.

Recycling Manager Susan Cordes said 41 recycling igloos are placed throughout the county within 34 municipalities.

Since the mixed recycling as been implemented they have seen a 10 to 15 percent increase in the containers.

“The recycling program is really going well,” Cordes said.

Cordes also mentioned that the county recycles cell phones and Delaware County was the first county in the state to have a formal cell phone-recycling program.

Cell phones are collected at all of the libraries and municipal buildings in the county, she said, as well as at the County Government Center.
