Pileggi Re-Elected as Dist. 9's State Senator

The Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader beat out Democratic challenger Patricia Worrell.

Pennsylvania Senator Dominic Pileggi, the Republican Incumbent, takes the 9th District win over Democratic challenger Patricia Worrell.

Pileggi won the 9th District State Senate race with 69,238 votes against Worrell's 56,030 votes, with 100 percent of Delaware and Chester counties polls reporting by Wednesday afternoon.

Pileggi thanked voters for their support following his re-election and he will continue his efforts to get things done in his next term.

"As Senate Majority Leader, I have worked to increase fiscal responsibility and transparency in state government, two issues that I will continue to champion during my next term," said Pileggi in a press release. "There is still much that needs to be done and I will continue my efforts to develop pragmatic and common sense solutions to the economic and fiscal challenges facing Pennsylvania."

Patch caught up with Pileggi as the polls opened Tuesday morning. He quietly waited in line to cast his vote alongside his constituents in Chester.

Pileggi said he ran a campaign this election that was "less intense" compared to four years ago, but his main goal was to really inform people that he was on the ballot.

"I thought it was important to remind people that was I standing for re-election. A lot of people that I met were not aware that there was an election for State Senate for District 9 because there’s so much focus on the presidential and U.S. Senate election," Pileggi said. "A lot of people lost track that there were elections in State Senate."

He said his campaign included sending mailers to district voters, having energetic volunteers behind him who placed signs on lawns and business and he attended numerous events across the district, meeting his constituents.

"It was a very active campaign," Pileggi said. "My opponent was not as active or energetic as my previous opponents were, but I don’t campaign dependent on my opponent's actions. I set out a campaign plan and go."

Pileggi was first elected to the 9th District State Senate seat in 2002 in a special election. Prior to the Senate, Pileggi served as mayor of the City of Chester from 1998 to 2002. Pennsylvania's 9th District represents parts of Chester and Delaware counties, including Media Borough and Middletown Township.
