School District, Families, to Discuss Media Elementary Relocation

On Monday night, Rose Tree Media School District officials will hold a town hall meeting to discuss relocation options for the 2012-2013 school year.

School district officials will meet with Media Elementary School families Monday night to discuss possible relocation options for the elementary school in the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.

At the town hall meeting, Superintendent James Wigo will explain where the school district is so far in the process of investigating options, and will also answer questions from school families. This meeting will not be a formal announcement of a decided upon plan for where the school will move next year, Wigo told Media Patch this morning.

, the school will close for repairs and the students will be relocated during the next school year. The 100-year-old roof trusses in an entire wing of the building will need to be replaced, and the building must be vacant for repairs to be made, Wigo said at .

According to the Media Elementary School Families Facebook group, Wigo spoke at a Media Elementary PTG meeting last month and several temporary school options were mentioned including Barrall Field, Nativity BVM, St. Kevins in Springfield and other open space available within the borough.

Media Borough Council Vice President Monica Simpson reported at council's April 19 meeting that council had been invited to meet with Wigo regarding the relocation, but no relocation option had yet been decided on. Simpson mentioned that using modular classrooms on was an option, but said the school district was still looking at other facilities that could potentially be utilized.
