Upper Providence Council: Gun Amendment Enacted, Fencing Contract Approved

Thursday night's meeting clocked in at under 15 minutes, but plenty got done.

The enacted an amendment to local gun law at its meeting Thursday night. 

The amendment states that no person in Upper Providence Township can fire a weapon, unless in defense of a person or their property, or in compliance with the Pennsylvania Game and Wild Life Code (34 PA.C.S Section 101). It will go into effect in five days.

In other council business, Councilman Thomas McFadden announced that as of May 31, the township had collected 75 percent of budgeted revenues and had spent 37 percent of the budget. McFadden added that 92 percent of real estate taxes had been collected.

The council also filled two of the three vacant volunteer positions in the Environmental Commission, appointing Leonard Ditomo of the second district and Kevin Kellog of the third, to the two at-large positions. The first district position remains open.

The council also approved the bid by A&E Fencing to replace fencing, playground equipment, and clear vegetation at Ray Roache Park and then did some late spring cleaning of their own, moving to dispose of 10 years of public records (1991-2000).

Also, Township Manager Edward Cashman announced that on July 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the township building, the Environmental Commission will host an educational seminar with PECO that will teach and encourage conservation techniques. Cashman also announced that "Electronic Friday," a drop off program for old and outdated electronics, will be held on June 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Delaware County Community College's main campus.

Cashman added that registration is open for the township summer camp, and spots are filling up fast. The camp runs from July 11 to 29, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon at Rose Tree Elementary School. The camp is open to kids grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
