Media Theatre's 'Jack Frost' Features Bala Cynwyd MS Student in Lead Role

Looking for a high-energy, hour-long, fun musical for your children over the holidays? Come see 'Jack Frost Saves Christmas' at Media Theatre.

Karl Meyer, 12, has his debut as the title role in Jack Frost Saves Christmas this holiday season. The youth production plays at 11 a.m. Saturdays, December 3, 10, 17, and 24.

Jack Frost Saves Christmas is the story of a boy who has a unique talent—everything he touches turns to ice. When Father Winter retires, young Jack must find a way to save the holiday in Christmastown before it gets too hot and all the snow melts away. The musical for ages 4 and up by Matt and Tina Jo Wallace and Scott Bradley has its East Coast premiere at The Media Theatre after several successful runs in Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee.

Meyer is a student at Bala Cynwyd Middle School of the Lower Merion School District where he plays percussion in sixth grade band. He is a member of The Media Theatre’s New School, a conservatory-style approach to music theatre education, as are most members of the cast. Meyer also attended the 2011 King’s College Choir Training Course, sponsored by the Royal School of Church Music America, under the direction of Richard Tanner (Director of Music, Blackburn Cathedral in Lancashire, UK).

He has performed in several productions with the Wolf Performing Arts Center in Wynnewood, most recently as Pig-Pen in Snoopy in June 2011. He has appeared in productions of Alice In Wonderland and Peter Pan with Wolf PAC. He sings with the St. Andrew Boys Choir of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.

Jack Frost Saves Christmas is a high-energy fun musical for ages 4 and up. Several animals find Jack in a snowbank at the beginning, and there is also an eccentric town theatre director who can't seem to remember Jack's name. There is even a latin-flavored song titled "Cancel Christmas" in which the town deals with 98 degree heat in the middle of the holiday.

One note of interest: Scott Bradley, who wrote the music for Jack Frost was the music director for several Broadway series productions at Media Theatre in the '90s.
