Pinkalicious is in Media Every Weekend through May

The Delco premiere of the off-Broadway children's musical is based on the popular book series.

The Media Theatre is thinking pink for three months. Each weekend from now through May 25, “Pinkalicious, The Musical” will be entertaining audiences ages 4 and up. The off-Broadway hit makes its Delaware County debut at The Media Theatre, the first theatre in the region to produce the show.

“Pinkalicious, The Musical” is based on the popular book by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann about the girl who loves all things pink, including pink cupcakes. She becomes so enraptured by the color and the cupcakes that she turns pink, causing her parents to take her to see Dr. Wink. They try to overcome the problem, but then her brother admits that he, too, likes pink!

Lessons in the musical abound throughout, and are shown in an entertaining and humorous manner in the fast-paced production. They include eating properly, over-indulgence, and that sweetness ultimately comes from the inside. There is also the case of Peter, her brother, in which we learn that it is ok for boys to like pink, too.

The show features two young actresses from Delaware County as Pinkalicious on rotating weekends: Beada Briglia of Media and Vicky Heppard of Ridley Park. Both are members of The Media Theatre’s New School and have appeared in other productions on its stage this season. Peter is also double cast, with Media’s Justin Fitzgerald and Michael Wells of Springfield sharing the role. Broomall’s Jackie Bellace and Media’s Elaina Fitzgerald share the role of Alison, Pinkalicious’ friend.

Mr. and Mrs. Pinkerton are portrayed by two professional adult actors. Doug Cashell, recently seen in Media’s “A Velveteen Rabbit Christmas” and “Alice In Wonderland,” plays Pinkalicious’ father and Molly Tower, seen in “Dr. Dolittle,” is her mother.

The production has performances on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. every weekend from now through May 25. Sunday shows at 1 p.m. are on March 17, March 24, April 7, and April 14. The hour long show has songs including “Pinkatastic,” “Buzz Off,” and “The Power of Antioxidants.” A large ensemble portrays singing cupcakes, birds, bees, and butterflies.
