DELCO LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL FOUNDATION HAS 'SPAMALOT' FUNDRAISER AT MEDIA THEATRE

It’s a sure bet The Media Theatre will be a safe place to be on Saturday night October 12 when Delaware County’s finest attend a performance of Monty Python’s “Spamalot”. The Delaware County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation will host its annual fundraiser at the establishment with a reception and show.

Dozens of police officers from various boroughs and towns in Delco will gather to support their mission while having a few laughs thanks to Monty Python’s hilarious take on the King Arthur legend.

The mission of The Memorial Foundation is nothing to laugh at, however. The group honors the memories of those in or associated with Delaware County law enforcement who laid down their lives to protect the citizens of the County. They also provide continued support to the families of the fallen heroes while creating and maintaining a permanent memorial for all citizens to reflect upon those who made the supreme sacrifice.

The fundraiser on October 12 supports the maintenance and perpetual care of the memorial in Rose Tree Park. At the event, Officer Ed Kienzle, a retired Prospect Park Policeman, will be honored. Officer Kienzle saved the life of another officer, Bill Nichols, on July 27, 1989, when Nichols was shot in the line of duty. With his vast knowledge of firearms, Kienzle placed his finger behind the trigger of the gun preventing the offender from firing additional rounds. Officer Kienzle apprehended the drug induced suspect, making sure that Officer Nichols life was spared.

There will be another one of Delco’s finest in the spotlight on October 12. Henry O’ Neill, Prospect Park Policeman and main organizer of the event, will be the special guest Voice of God in the musical comedy during the 8pm performance. O’ Neill said, “We decided to come to “Spamalot” this year because, in our line of work, we all need to relax and laugh once in awhile.” O’ Neill has been a regular visitor to The Media Theatre for the past several years as his son, Sean, participates in each of the Youth Series productions, having started his stage career as a young Tommy in Artistic Director Jesse Cline’s “The Who’s Tommy”.
