MEDIA THEATRE BRINGS TRADITION TO SUMMER CAMP WITH 'FIDDLER ON THE ROOF'

The Media Theatre brings "Tradition" to Summer Camp with the Summer Youth Project Musical,Fiddler On The Roof.

This will be the first summer musical at The Media Theatre that is not specifically for teens who have an interest in performing on a professional music theatre stage. It's for ages 8 and up, who may enjoy the experience of performing this legendary musical.

This wonderful camp will meet starting June 16 with three weeks of rehearsal and performances begin July 10. The musical will perform for the public through August 10, four times each weekend.Campers will work directly with Media Music Theatre Company Artistic Director Jesse Cline, plus professional designers and choreographers. The entire camp gives them insight as to what it is like being in a professional production. It's a also an educational opportunity in which young people will learn more about this time in history, simply be being involved in the production.

In the legendary musical, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905, Tevye tries to maintain his family (with five daughters) and Jewish traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. Not only must he cope with the Tsar evicting Jews from their village, but also the willful actions of his three older daughters whose choice of husbands moves them farther away from the traditional customs of his faith.

With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein, this musical is rich in historic and ethnic detail. It's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences touched by its humor, warmth and honesty.

The score is filled with memorable songs like "Sunrise, Sunset", "If I Were A Rich Man", "Matchmaker", and more.

The Summer Youth Musical is for performers ages 8 and up, as campers will delight in being a part of this tune-filled ensemble onstage with lessons rich in history and "Tradition"!

Audiences will be on their feet as the young cast takes them along on their journey in this rich, wonderful Tony winning Broadway masterpiece!

For those who register before March 1, a $50 discount applies. You will find registration information at www.mediatheatre.org or by calling 610-891-0100.
