Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School Selects New Principal

The new regional Catholic school's name has been officially determined and a new principal has been selected but the enrollment turnout is currently low.

The School and St. John Chrysostom school communities officially have a new school name and principal.

The merged schools will now be called Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School, according the regional school's website.

Parents who registered their children for the non the name.

Therese Waters was also announced as the new school principal.

Waters was previously the principal at St. Patrick Catholic School in Kennett Square since 2007 and was a seventh and eighth grade science and religion at Saints Simon and Jude School in West Chester prior to that, according to the website.

Even though an unofficial registration deadline was set to enroll students at the new school, enrollment is still welcome. The March 26 deadline was imposed in order for school administrators to have an idea of how many students would be attending next school year so teachers and staff could be hired.

According to an anonymous, former Nativity BVM School parent, about 110 students are currently enrolled at Mother of Providence, well below the number currently enrolled at the two current schools. Between both Nativity and St. John's there are a total of about 325 students.

In January, Nativity had about 160 students signed up with a letter of intent to register for the , according to this parent.

Several Nativity BVM families have enrolled their children at in Upper Providence or St. Thomas the Apostle in Aston or they have left Catholic education and enrolled in the public school system, according to this parent.
