Many believed that Johnston accepting the new role as principal, marked the end of the fight to keep Nativity BVM School open. Local businesses still have "Save Nativity" signs in their windows but overall its been quiet and the fight appeared to be over.

Some have speculated that it was the Archdiocese's hope that the Nativity community would follow Johnston to the new regional school as it's been clear the community respects and loves Johnston as their principal.

Johnston has continually stayed quiet during the Blue Ribbon Commission process and has not responded to any requests for public comment.

A meeting between both school communities is being held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John Chrysostom in Wallingford. It is unclear if the meeting is open to the public.

Below is the letter Johnston sent to parents:

Dear Parents,

At this time, after much discernment and for personal reasons I am unable to serve as the future principal for the regional school. I will continue to support the regionalization process and offer assistance to you and to whomever will be selected as the new administrator.

I encourage you to attend the Thursday night meeting. As we know the gift of a Catholic education is a lasting treasure. I will continue to pray for you and I ask for your continued prayers for me.

Blessings and Peace,

Mary Anne Johnston
