Penncrest Is Looking To Score

After 0-2 start, the Lions seek positives.

It hasn’t exactly been a great start, but it hasn’t been as bad as it looks, either, asserts junior quarterback Shane Donnelly. Here’s the issue—the Lions have not scored a point to open their season, getting outscored 62-0 in their first two games, most of which came in a last Friday night in the Central League opener.

"We have to execute," said Donnelly, who threw for 160 yards against Marple Newtown. "You see a 41-0 blowout, but when you see the game film, they weren’t much better than us. It’s been mental mistakes that have killed us. We need to study our plays more and execute. It’s not physical, but in the micro-second in your mind, you miss something, you can’t have that back.

"You have to think about things before the play happens and think about what you’re doing before you do it. Our attitude is good. I like that. I know we have potential. We have the best coaching staff in the Central League. We just have to get on board and execute. Our coaches are handling this really well. We have to start doing that more."

won’t get any breaks this week. The Lions travel to undefeated Springfield, which has one of the best defenses in the area.

"It will be more of a confidence thing this week," Donnelly said. "Our defense has played well, and defense is everything in football, but we have to score points."
