Philadelphia Union Soccer Star Reads to Indian Lane Students

The Delaware County Library System hosted Danny Califf last week at Indian Lane Elementary.

The Delaware County Library System hosted a Philadelphia Union soccer star last week at

Danny Califf, a center back for the Union, guest read to the school where his children attend on Friday.

He read his favorite book The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf to the students to promote summer reading.

Califf was born in California and started his soccer career playing for the Canyon Hills Soccer Association. He won the 2002 MLS Cup with the LA Galaxy, according to the Delaware County Library System.

Chairman Jack Whelan presented Califf with a library card and there was a raffle for tickets to an upcoming Union game.

Other prizes were awarded too, like Union bumper stickers, wristbands, shoe holders, jackets and a signed ball. 

The event was co-hosted by the and Middletown Children’s Librarian Juliann Kutchen.

The Delaware County Library System also kicked off its summer reading program with this year’s theme, "One World, Many Stories."
