Rose Tree Elementary Selected as Blue Ribbon School

The local elementary school was one of only six, statewide, that won the award.

along with five other Pennsylvania elementary schools, won the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon award.

The award honors high levels of student achievement or the closing of achievement gaps, Rose Tree Media School District Superintendent Jim Wigo announced Friday in a press release.

Wigo explained in a press release that, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, honors public and private schools based on one of two criteria.

Schools whose students are high performing or schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that improve student performance to high levels, Wigo explained. 

Both are measured by the student or school’s performance on state assessments or nationally-normed tests.

Rose Tree Elementary School holds the distinction of being ranked as a "high achieving" school.

Wigo said the students, staff, parents and the school Principal Karen Dougherty, are to be congratulated on their success.

The U.S. Department of Education will honor all 304 Blue Ribbon schools from across the country at a conference and awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
