RTM School Board Awards Bid Contracts, Accepts Several Teacher Retirements

The school board also denied public access to the Penncrest weight room.

Along with several regular points of business, the Board of School Directors awarded a few bid contracts at its meeting Thursday night.

The board unanimously awarded the bleacher replacement bid to L.J. Paolella, in an amount not to exceed $744,660. L.J. Paolella was the lowest, responsible bidder.

For the Glenwood gym floor and divider partition replacement, the board received five requests from vendors for a bid package and received three bids.

The board unanimously awarded the gym floor replacement and divider partition bid to L.J. Paolella Construction, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $61,286. L.J. Paolella was the lowest, responsible bidder.

 

In separate school district news, Penncrest’s athletic director and principal, brought a proposal to the board suggesting the Penncrest High School weight room be opened for public usage.

The weight room is currently open to all students and Chip Olinger, the athletic director, received several requests from alumni to use the facility, according to the meeting agenda packet.

The board discussed cost, security and liability regarding the matter. Penncrest administration did not support the proposal, according to the agenda packet. The committee agreed with the administration’s recommendation and denied access of the weight room to the public.

 

The board also accepted the retirement of several teachers, which are effective June 21, 2011.

At Glenwood Elementary the following teacher will retire:

Deborah Ney, Music Teacher

 

At the following teacher will retire:

Karen Pawlewicz, Elementary Teacher

 

At the following teachers will retire:

Katherine Echeverria, Reading Teacher

Carol Mitchell, Reading Teacher

 

At the following teachers and staff will retire:

Jacqueline Baker, Health and Physical Education Teacher

John Baker, Science Teacher

John Best, Math Teacher

Brian Bortnicker, Guidance Counselor

Rosanna Denney, Language Arts Teacher

Mary Ann Grassano, Special Education Teacher

Elizabeth McKelvey, Reading Teacher

LaVerne Motley, Librarian

Cynthia Stephens, Language Arts Teacher

Anthony Tolomeo, Language Arts Teacher

 

At Penncrest High School the following teacher will retire:

Judith Ricketts, Business Teacher

 

The following non-instructional staff will retire:

William Miller, Bus Driver
