RTM Superintendent Honored, Thanked Before Retirement

The Rose Tree Media School District superintendent retires after seven years of serving the district.

The superintendent attended her final school board meeting Thursday and will retire after seven years of serving the district.

Dr. Denise Kerr created numerous academic programs, like a Chinese language program, for the students of Rose Tree Media, School Board Vice President Nancy Fronduti said.

"She guided us to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future," Fronduti said.

Kerr was principal at before leaving the district to be assistant superintendent for the Council Rock School District.

She has been Rose Tree Media’s superintendent from 2004 to 2011.

"Dr. Kerr has touched the lives of students, staff and community and has inspired each one of us to deliver the dream," Fronduti said.

All of the members of the school board thanked Kerr for her hard work and dedication over the last seven years.

Board member Veronica Barbato said it was a pleasure to work with Kerr

"I have seen a student centered superintendent and a collaborative leader and it’s just been sheer pleasure," Barbato said. "I couldn’t begin to mention all the things you’ve done to make RTM a better place, academically and otherwise."

"You made the district stand out as a district with distinction and you never lost focus that it’s all about the kids," board member Jeffrey Pettit said.

Board member Bill Montgomery said Kerr made Rose Tree Media a better place from where it was when she came in.

Fronduti wished Kerr the best as she begins a new chapter in her life.

Kerr was presented with a plaque and flowers to a standing ovation from the audience.

Later in the meeting, Kerr thanked the board for hiring her as the first female superintendent in the district.

"I want to offer a heartfelt goodbye after 15 years of service to the Rose Tree Media School District, seven of which have been as superintendent," Kerr said.

She said of course there were some "bumpy times" through the years but the board and she had their fun.

"They trusted me and gave me full support even though they had a different opinion on certain issues. They really supported the superintendent on some tough decisions and you can’t ask for more than that," Kerr said.

and will officially become the new RTM superintendent on July 1.
