'Run the Lane' at Indian Lane Elementary on Saturday

Meet the Chick-Fil-A cow and support the Norm Kelly Smiles Scholarship Fund with your run.

will host the second annual 'Run the Lane' event, a 5K run/walk and 1-mile fun run this Saturday. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Norm Kelly Smiles Scholarship Fund.

"It's a lot of fun and a great way to raise money for the school," Indian Lane parent Tracey Gilligan said.

The 5K run/walk begins at 9 a.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m. A one-mile fun run will begin at 10:15 a.m. During the 5K race and afterwards, there will be activities for children, such as a moon bounce, face painting, and a visit from the Chick-Fil-A cow—who will race the Indian Lane Bobcat.

Prizes will be presented to the race winners, as well as for dress and other categories.

"It was a great turnout the first year, and we're excited about it again this year," Gilligan said.

The Norm Kelly Smiles Scholarship Fund was created in memory of  teacher Norm Kelly, who passed away in 2006 after battling cancer. The scholarship funds are presented each year for use in higher education to two to three seniors, who "exemplify the spirit of a remarkable human being—similar to that of the late Norm Kelly," the website reads.
