Grade/Subject: Kindergarten

Years in the Industry:  27 years total, 26 years at Media Elementary

Teaching History:

Hooven began her teaching career at Concord Elementary in Garnet Valley School District before heading to Rose Tree Elementary to teach the first grade. Then it was off to Media Elementary where she taught first and second grades before teaching Kindergarten for almost 20 years now. She received her undergraduate degree from Millersville Unversity and her graduate degree from Widener University.

What do you like most about your job:

I love the children. Each day is never the same. I always thought first grade would be my favorite but the curriculum has changed over the years and now we teach reading in Kindergarten. I love seeing the confidence and happiness when a child knows he or she is reading. When they get that light bulb moment, it's so rewarding.

Why did you become a teacher:

I had always wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to help others in some way. I worked at a preschool/day care in high school and decided that was what I wanted to do. There were a few years though when I considered becoming an orthodontist.

What do you like best about your current school:

I don't like Media Elementary...I love it! The staff is incredible. All 27 years, as people come and go, Media Elementary has always managed to create a warm feeling when you walk through the doors, that many other places do not have. From our office staff to custodial staff to the professional staff, it is a true family here.
