Teacher Spotlight: Media Elementary's Patrick Murphy

This Media Elementary School guidance counselor comes from a family full of teachers.

Media Patch is offering a feature called Teacher Spotlight where we will feature a local teacher who deserves recognition. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do.

This Media Elementary School guidance counselor, taught third and fifth grades at the school for 19 years, before moving in to the guidance counselor role. His mother, father and sister are also teachers.

Teaching History:

Murphy taught third and fifth grades for 19 years at Media Elementary before becoming a guidance counselor. His undergraduate degree is from Bloomsburg University and graduate degree is from West Chester University.

 

What do you like most about your job:

It's never dull. There's always something different each school day. Classroom teaching is a part of guidance and I do classroom guidance and counseling one-on-one as well as groups.

 

Why did you become a teacher:

I come from a family of teachers. My father taught in the Philadelphia School District for 35 years and my mother taught in Springfield, Montgomery County. Both were music teachers. My sister is also a music teacher in Massachusetts.

 

What do you like best about your current school:

There is a diverse population of students. And the friendly staff and welcome atmosphere.
