Teacher Spotlight: Media Elementary's Denim Senavitis

This 3rd Grade teacher knew she wanted to call Media Elementary School home.

Teacher Spotlight is where we will feature a local teacher who deserves recognition. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do.

We're meeting some of Media Elementary School's newest teachers. This 3rd grade teacher has substituted at schools throughout Delaware and Chester counties but knew she wanted to call Media Elementary home (even if that means a commute from New Jersey).

Years in the industry: First year as long-term substitute at Media Elementary

Teaching History:

Senavitis was a daily building substitute teacher throughout Delaware and Chester counties but substituted at Media Elementary several times, semi-long term. She was also an Interventionist for math and reading. She graduated from West Chester University. She commutes from the Cherry Hill area to Media Elementary and knew she wanted to teach at the school after substituting throughout the area

Why did you become a teacher:

I became a teacher so I could make a difference in student's lives and contribute to society in a positive way.

What do you like most about your job:

Every day is different and I get to spend so much time with the students and shape their learning. I like being around the great staff and there are a lot of parents who are really involved here and I like that community atmosphere.

What do you hope your students get out of your classes:

I hope they feel a sense of community in my classroom and become better citizens and learn how to respect one another. I also hope that I'm preparing them academically for years to come. And I hope that they get to come to a happy and warm environment each day.

If you could change anything about education, what would it be:

I would want more flexibility in the structure of the school day.

What do you like best about your current school:

I like how welcoming and kind hearted the students are and the staff is so supportive. The community members are always in here volunteering and helping any way they can. There's a unique connection here I think compared to other schools that the community is extremely involved and takes pride in the elementary school and the history of it and they want to contribute to it too. I substituted everywhere but I always wanted to come back here. There's definitely something special about Media Elementary, I just love the environment here.
