Teacher Spotlight: Media Elementary's Eileen Hunger

This 4th Grade teacher, not only lives in Middletown Township, but also went through the Rose Tree Media School District herself.

Teacher Spotlight is where we will feature a local teacher who deserves recognition. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do.

We're meeting some of Media Elementary School's newest teachers. This 4th Grade teacher attended Rose Tree Media schools herself and loves teaching the children in her own community.

Years in the industry: Three years, first year at Media Elementary

Teaching History:

Hunger began her career in the Lower Merion School District where she was a long-term substitute for Kindergarten. She then was an Interventionist and also a 6th grade math teacher at Springton Lake Middle School prior to coming to Media Elementary. She graduated from West Chester University as well as Penncrest High School and attended Glenwood Elementary and Springton Lake Middle School.

Why did you become a teacher:

I've always enjoyed helping others.

What do you like most about your job:

I like teaching new ideas to students and my favorite part is when a student has that "aha moment" and they grasp the idea.

What do you hope your students get out of your classes:

I hope they learn and grow socially and academically throughout the year and just have a great time.

If you could change anything about education, what would it be:

Education is already going in this direction, but I would want the students to have a more important role in their learning and take the lead in their learning. I would want to have more student-based learning rather than the teacher just teaching.

What do you like best about your current school:

I love the community. I'm from Media and went through the Rose Tree Media School District and it has so much of a hometown feel to it. The community is just fantastic.
