Teachers Accept Awards at RTM School Board Meeting

Two Rose Tree Media School District elementary school teachers were awarded for their excellence in teaching.

Two elementary school teachers were awarded for their excellence in teaching at Thursday's RTM school board meeting.

Teacher Nancy Gheysens was awarded the 2011 Teacher As Hero Award.

This yearly recognition program, sponsored by State Farm, honors outstanding educations in the Delaware Valley. The qualifications to receive this award are: the teacher has provided many years of service in the field of education, volunteers in her community outside of school, demonstrates exceptional creativity in the classroom, defuses violence and bullying among students, perseveres despite increasing challenges and serves as a role model to other teachers.

The award was presented to Gheysens at a special ceremony at the National Liberty Museum.

Teacher Jayne Walker was honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award from The Franklin Mint Credit Union.

. She holds certification and has taught in both elementary and special education. Walker was nominated by her professional colleagues.
