Whiz Kid: Auston Trusty

This Springton Lake Middle School star finds time for it all.

Each week, Media Patch, will feature individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments in the new feature called Whiz Kid. We also want to hear suggestions on who you'd like to see featured as a Whiz Kid so send some nominations our way. This week's Whiz Kid is Auston Trusty, president of the 7th grade student council at and a multi-sports athlete.

Accomplishments: Elected 7th grade student council president, national team prospect for soccer

Why he’s awesome: Along with being student council president, Auston plays basketball, football, soccer and baseball and still finds time for other school clubs as well. He delivered cans of food to Pride and Methodist Church in Media through one of those school clubs. He says he’s "really nice" to people and is trying to come up with good ideas for student council. Currently he’s working on ideas for the 7th grade school dances. His teachers, principal and coaches all speak highly of him. He is always respectful and gets along great with the student body. He plays point guard for the school’s basketball team and recently had to step up when half of the team was out sick or injured. He said he had to rebound the ball over the "big guys" since at 5 foot 5 inches Auston considered himself a "smaller guy." But the game was a success and Springton prevailed with Auston leading the team to victory.

Editor's note: Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local hockey team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.
