Soccer Shop to Open on Small Business Saturday

Media F.C. will open on State Street in Media Borough on Saturday.

Media Football Club, or Media F.C., will open its doors on State Street in Media Borough at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The unique soccer shop will not only offer apparel and equipment for the soccer player but will also appeal to the soccer enthusiast.

"We wanted to create a shopping experience, where you can come in and do more than shop,"  Ebun Olaloye, co-creator of the local clothing brand Live Breathe Futbol (LBF), said.

Along with clothing and equipment, Media F.C. will always have its five, 42- and 50-inch, televisions tuned to a soccer game, especially early weekend mornings, when most games are live.

"It's hard for an American soccer fan to find a place to watch the games," Media F.C. owner Tom Kennedy said. "At a pub, once football comes on, the soccer game is turned off."

Fans can also enjoy a foosball table and FiFa14 video game on xBox and even FiFa video game tournaments, as well.

From Kick Off to Goal

Kennedy's 23-year-old soccer playing daughter Lauren suggested he open the soccer store when the space, which was formerly Sassy Girl Boutique, became available.

There are no other soccer shops in the immediate area, he said, and he knew there was a market for it.

Kennedy, who grew up in Delaware County, met with Olaloye, 24, and his LBF co-creator Domenick Cucinotta, 26, who are friends of his daughter's and he knew with their help and soccer experience, Media F.C. could be a success.

"I liked what they had to say. I needed people around me who could do it and they know soccer," Kennedy said. "They eat, breathe and sleep soccer or...live and breathe it."

Olaloye and Cucinotta, who both grew up in South Jersey, played soccer their entire lives and attended Temple University where they met and first created Live Breathe Futbol in 2010.

Moving the clothing line to more of an experience in the soccer shop, was the next logical step for LBF.

"When you walk into most soccer stores it's bland and sometimes they aren't knowledgable about the sport," Cucinotta said. "We wanted to make sure that the store catered to the soccer fanatic, the person who loves the game."

Johnny Dickerson, who will be Media F.C.'s store manager, met Olaloye and Cucinotta when they brought their clothing line to Second Street Soccer Shop in Philadelphia where he was then manager.

That store closed after the owner passed away suddenly and Dickerson was available to manage Media F.C., he said.

The team moved quickly and a few cosmetic renovations were done to the space since Media F.C. took over at the end of September. The shop's finishing touches are almost complete and dozens of soccer balls will soon be inflated and they will be ready to open on Saturday.

Opening Day

The ribbon on Media F.C. will be cut at 11 a.m. on Saturday, which happens to also be Small Business Saturday.

Soccer enthusiasts and shoppers can enjoy plenty of live games on the TV's, food, a DJ, a FiFa14 tournament and discounts and giveaways.

All local clubs and high school and college soccer teams can also enjoy a 15 percent off discount for the first week that Media F.C. is open, Cucinotta said.

Media Football Club, located at 300 W. State St. in Media, will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will open early on Saturdays and Sundays at 7 a.m., in order to watch live soccer games. Holiday hours may vary.
